The 2022 National Survey of Canadian Community Pharmacists offers key insights into dispensing workflows and the use of digital tools in pharmacies across Canada. The average pharmacy dispenses 222 prescriptions daily, with 67% using a combination of paper and electronic records, and 27% operating paperlessly. Digital functionalities such as adverse drug interaction alerts (75%) and electronic patient care reminders (65%) are widely used. However, fewer pharmacists have access to tools like PrescribeIT® (44%) or lab test results through provincial systems (26%). Pharmacists expressed the highest satisfaction with renewing prescriptions efficiently (58%) but reported lower satisfaction in areas like inter-professional collaboration and communicating with prescribers via fax or phone. The data highlights areas where digital health adoption could further streamline pharmacy operations and improve care coordination.
