The 2022 National Survey of Canadian Community Pharmacists explored the impact of e-prescribing on pharmacy workflows, patient safety, and prescription management. Among pharmacists surveyed, 74% believed e-prescribing improves prescription legibility and 69% reported it saves time transcribing prescription details. Over half noted it enhances collaboration with prescribers and supports faster processing of prescription renewals. The most valued benefits of e-prescribing include reduced transcription errors (44%), improved collaboration (42%), and decreased administrative workload (36%). Additionally, 51% of pharmacists believe widespread e-prescribing would reduce medication errors, while 62% say it would improve pharmacy productivity. Key functionalities such as access to electronic health records and two-way digital communication were also rated as highly important to enhancing patient care.
