The 2022 Canadian Digital Health Survey highlights Canadians’ concerns, awareness, and experiences related to health information privacy. Most Canadians (72%) feel at least somewhat confident in protecting their online privacy, yet 66% remain concerned about data breaches. Nearly half do not trust companies to uphold privacy policies. While 29% are aware of privacy laws protecting personal health information (PHI), only 17% have exercised their right to access it. Attitudes vary: 20% are not comfortable with their PHI being used, while 53% believe they should be informed of breaches. Despite 74% reporting no known privacy breach experience, hearing about breaches has a negative effect on perception for 69% of respondents. This data emphasizes a growing need for transparency, stronger privacy education, and accessible digital rights information to support Canadians' trust in digital health systems.
