According to the 2022 Canadian Digital Health Survey, Canadians place a high degree of trust in public sector healthcare professionals to keep their personal health information (PHI) secure. Family doctors are the most trusted (70.5%), followed by pharmacists (58%) and hospital healthcare providers (55.5%). However, trust is significantly lower for private sector entities. Only 12.3% trust private companies that offer digital health tools, and just 14.1% trust virtual care providers. While 59.6% of Canadians are comfortable with doctors sharing PHI through electronic health records, fewer (43.6%) feel confident that privacy safeguards are adequate. These results show a clear divide in trust between public and private digital health actors, underscoring the importance of transparency, regulation, and communication to foster confidence in digital health solutions.
