In 2022, 47% of Canadians used virtual care by telephone, 11% through video, and 6% via messaging, email, or chat. Still, 43% did not use virtual care, with many citing no health need (47%) or preference for in-person quality (18%). Most virtual services (62%) were delivered directly by healthcare providers without third-party vendors, and 69% were publicly funded. Regarding privacy, 33% of users were asked for consent before a virtual visit, and 61% provided it verbally. The vast majority (93%) reported understanding the consent they gave. These insights show that while virtual care is widely adopted, consent protocols and digital literacy remain key to building trust in digital health services.
