Understanding the utilization and impact of digital health technologies on nursing practice

About the Survey

The Canadian Survey of Nurses is a triennial series of surveys investigating the utilization and impact of digital health technologies on nursing practice. Commissioned by Canada Health Infoway (Infoway) in collaboration with the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and the Canadian Nursing Informatics Association (CNIA), this data collection initiative targets regulated nurses across various domains of nursing practice and working in diverse care settings across provinces and territories in Canada. The survey is disseminated through an online questionnaire to members of the CNA and CNIA, as well as other participants within the nursing community. To ensure representation across demographics, the results are statistically weighted using the latest workforce data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).

Survey Topics

The 2023 Canadian Survey of Nurses will generate insights on the current state of digital health technologies use in nursing practice across care settings. Specifically, the survey will gather data on: clinical systems used by nurses to document and retrieve patient information and inform clinical decision-making; nurses’ ability to access and exchange patient information seamlessly; and perceptions around the use of virtual care and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies by nurses.
