This page provides results from the 2024 Canadian Digital Health Survey with trending of selected questions from previous years' surveys where data is available. These annually conducted surveys are based on a variety of utilization and attitudinal tracking metrics regarding digital health services in Canada. The surveys provide actionable insights to help advance the digital health landscape in Canada.

Survey Topics

The survey collects data on the access to and use of various digital health services, including electronic access to personal health information. It also gathers data on factors that may influence access and utilization patterns. The survey includes a range of patients-reported experience measures designed to capture experience with and perspectives of connected health,care coordination,and the use of AI scribe solutions by healthcare providers during medical encounters. In addition, it collects a variety of socio-demographic, economic, racial, geographic, and health status descriptors.
  • Digital Health Uptake
    This section offers insights into the digital health landscape in terms of interest in, use of and unmet demand for digitally enabled health services. It explores a variety of digital health services that includes access to personal health information (PHI), e-booking with a health provider online, virtual visit with a health provider, and consultation with a chatbot for healthcare concerns.
  • Access to Electronic PHI
    This section explores how Canadians are accessing their electronic PHI, the platforms they use to access their personal health records (provincial portals vs. other portals), and the types of health records they can access. It also examines Canadians’ experiences with and perceptions about the platforms used to access their PHI.
  • Connected Health and Coordination of Care
    This section highlights how Canadians are using digital tools to support more connected healthcare. It covers the sharing of wearable and patient summary data with providers, as well as satisfaction with access, communication, and quality of care. It also looks at experiences with data sharing between providers, care coordination, and common issues like delays in diagnostic results or repeated tests.
  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare
    This section explores Canadians' experiences and perceptions of AI in healthcare. It compares interest in AI-powered services with actual access, and examines attitudes toward AI’s general use in care. The findings also highlight awareness and opinions about AI scribes used to document health encounters, as well as firsthand experiences with these tools. Overall satisfaction with innovative technologies in healthcare rounds out the picture of how AI is being received in clinical settings.
  • Digital Health Literacy
    Digital health literacy tends to be an important driver of the uptake of digital health services. This section presents Canadians’ digital health literacy scores calculated from the eHEALS assessment tool.
  • Respondent Profile
    This section includes age, gender, geography and other variables describing the study sample.
