About the Survey

This page provides results from the 2025 Canadian Medical Student Digital Health Survey. The survey provides insight into how medical students are currently using digital tools in their education and clinical training, their self-rated confidence in applying these tools, and their expectations for future practice. The findings will be valuable to medical schools, faculty leaders, national organizations, policymakers and other stakeholders who are seeking to modernize medical education to reflect the realities of digital transformation in health care.

Survey Topics

The survey examines how medical students across Canada learn about, use, and perceive digital health in their education and clinical training. It covers demographics, prior exposure to digital health, use of digital tools in learning and clinical settings, and self-rated confidence in performing digital health–related tasks. Students are asked about their attitudes toward digital health adoption, including perceived benefits, concerns, and its expected impact on future practice. The survey also explores how digital health is integrated into medical curricula, preferred learning formats, barriers to training, and areas of further interest, providing a comprehensive picture of students’ readiness for a digitally enabled healthcare environment.
  • Current Exposure and Learning in Digital Health
    This section explores how Canadian medical students learn about and engage with digital health tools and concepts. It covers the types of digital tools used during medical training and clinical practice, as well as the digital health education they have received. The results are presented by medical school year, age, gender, and primary specialty of interest.
  • Confidence and Preparedness for Digital Practice
    This section explores how comfortable and prepared medical students feel when using digital technologies in clinical settings. It looks at prior exposure to digital health, confidence in performing digital health-related tasks, and overall comfort navigating the digital health environment. The findings are broken down by medical school year, age, gender, and specialty preferences.
  • Attitudes and Expectations toward Digital Health
    This section explores medical students’ anticipation of the role digital health will play in their future careers. It presents their perceptions of digital health’s impact, optimism about its adoption, and perceived benefits. The results are disaggregated by year in medical school, age, gender, and specialty choice.
  • Barriers and Learning Needs in Digital Health Education
    This section identifies gaps and challenges reported by students in their digital health education. It covers concerns about digital health adoption, learning priorities, and barriers students report in their curriculum. The findings are broken down by medical schools year, age, gender, and specialty preferences.
  • Respondent Profile
    This section includes age, gender, geography and other variables describing the study sample.
